RICHMOND – In the 1971 Class 3A state championship football game at Fulton, Richmond captured the crown in a nip-and-tuck battle, 29-25. Nearly half a century later, the teams met again, this time at Richmond.

RICHMOND – A week between matches served the Spartans well, varsity volleyball coach Madison Endsley and senior Sophia Farnan agreed after Richmond’s 2-0 sweep Sept. 10 of visiting Orrick.

My latest sports journalism-related road trip has conjured up memories, including some sports-related memories close to home. Call it deja vu.

HARDIN – Aggies fans might not see the regular Norborne Hardin-Central offense when NHC hosts Santa Fe at Norborne in varsity 8-man football action Friday.

RICHMOND – The Spartans’ defense got stingy to start this week of varsity softball. After yielding 38 runs last week in their first two games, both losses, the Spartans posted back-to-back shutouts Monday and Tuesday.

HARDIN – Eric Fairchild will probably remember Orrick’s 35-26 win Sept. 4 over Norborne Hardin- Central because it was his first win as Orrick’s varsity 8-man football coach. And because of how it ended.

As a sports journalist, an amateur athlete and the owner of an aging, ginormous pickup truck I call “Canyonero Junior,” I already wish September were over. And not just for me.
