KCK trip conjures up sense of journalistic deja vu
My latest sports journalism-related road trip has conjured up memories, including some sports-related memories close to home.
Call it deja vu. Or if you are a fan of baseball great and native Missourian Yogi Berra, call it “deja vu, all over again.”
On Sunday, I trekked from the Northland to Kansas City, Kansas, to watch Sporting Kansas City defeat Minnesota United FC 1-0. The hour-plus drive to and from Children’s Mercy Park called to mind hundreds, maybe thousands of other urban driving experiences and some rural/small-town experiences. Moments of anxiety-fueled, profanityladen ranting because of other motorists and having to negotiate roads I had not traveled in about six months – and probably because of my general tolerate/hate relationship with driving. Many moments of prayer, too – a way of coping, perhaps, with the roads and motorists that contribute to my tolerate/hate relationship with driving, and spark the anxietyfueled, profanity-laden ranting. No moments of prayer mixed…
