UNDEFEATED Richmond has already surpassed last season’s win total in varsity softball less than two weeks into its 2026 campaign. After Monday’s 16-6 road win over Lexington, the Spartans were 6-0 entering Wednesday’s meeting with Lone Jack at Southview Park.

After Richmond’s 62-38 Sept. 4 loss to visiting Mary Institute and Country Day School (MICDS) in varsity 11-man football, Spartans coach Nick Persell challenged his players to have an excellent practice week to prepare for Friday’s road meeting with Marshall.

Orrick’s attempt to stage a Week 2 comeback victory in varsity 8-man football came up short. Trailing Polo 28-12 after three quarters, the Bearcats outscored the Panthers 2612 the fourth quarter.

ACTIVE Richmond graduate Keyshaun Elliott will have the chance to make his pro football debut this season. Elliott, a fifth-round pick in this year’s NFL draft, has made Chicago’s 53-man roster, released this week.

For 31 minutes, 7 seconds of game time, Richmond was in a low-scoring slugfest with Oak Grove. During the final 16:53, Richmond ensured its season opener didn’t end like it started.
