Bearcats gain confidence despite loss to LJ

Orrick varsity volleyball coach McKenzie Ketterman saw an attitude change in her Bearcats during their 3-0 season- opening loss Aug. 27 to visiting Lone Jack.

“We were a little nervous in the first two sets, this being our first game and going up against Lone Jack, knowing they’re a bigger school and we haven’t played well in the past with them,” Ketterman said shortly after the best-of-five, I-70 Conference meeting.

The Bearcats, however, displayed more confidence the final set, according to Ketterman.

“We had our rotations down,” she said. “We were getting a little more swinging on the ball. Setters were able to set the ball, and we had some more passing than the first two sets.”

Orrick senior Emerie Qualls noticed that confidence, too.

“It was our third one, so we knew what they were doing, stuff like that,” Qualls said. “And then also, we just worked together, I feel like. We weren’t upset with each other, and we just passed, set, hit.”
