Richmond has already surpassed last season’s win total in varsity softball less than two weeks into its 2026 campaign.

After Monday’s 16-6 road win over Lexington, the Spartans were 6-0 entering Wednesday’s meeting with Lone Jack at Southview Park. Richmond finished 5-12 in 2025.

The girls opened their 2026 campaign by going 3-0 Aug. 29 in a round robin tournament, hosted by Lathrop. The Spartans then won their home opener, edging Lawson 6-5 in eight innings Sept. 1 at Southview; and defeated Warrensburg 7-3 Sept. 3 on the road before getting the 10-run win over Lexington.

“I’m very proud of the way our girls have competed, supported one another and continued to improve,” Spartans coach Baylyn Jennings stated Sept. 4 via email. “We’re excited about where this team is headed and look forward to what the rest of the season brings!”
