Body RICHMOND – Wyatt Covey made a game-saving play near the end of Richmond’s home opener that might have impressed baseball legend Willie Mays.

Body LIBERTY – Richmond High School graduate Abby Vandiver is getting some pitching work in her freshman softball season at William Jewell College. As of Monday, Vander had made seven relief appearances and was 1-0, William Jewell records stated.

Body LEXINGTON – A long wait ended for Richmond varsity track and field coach Mike Long and his Spartans on Tuesday. They had been set to open the season March 25 by hosting a meet, but weather interfered.

Body ORRICK – Varsity softball coach Zach McGill and his Bearcats got in some unexpected extra practice days before Monday’s 23-2 loss to visiting Santa Fe.

Body ODESSA – In 2019, Nick Persell got his first win as Richmond’s varsity football coach. In 2021, Persell got his first win as Richmond’s varsity baseball coach.

Body RICHMOND – Nick Persell finds inspiration in coaches who mentored him as he guides Richmond’s baseball program. Doubling as Richmond’s varsity football coach, Persell became head coach in 2020.

Body RICHMOND – This season is like a rebirth for Richmond’s track and field program, varsity boys and girls coach Mike Long said. In 2020, the Spartans “were really primed and ready to go” when they started training in March, Long recalled.
