Thacker coaches, teaches at Orrick to heal emotionally

Body ORRICK – Kirk Thacker sees his new job of coaching and teaching at Orrick as therapeutic. A 1987 Richmond High School graduate, Thacker became Orrick’s varsity 8-man football and varsity track coach and joined the high school faculty as a social studies teacher this spring.

ENDING ON A HIGH NOTE

Body JEFFERSON CITY – The Spartans gave Richmond varsity track and field coach Mike Long a few high notes for ending his career. One of those notes was a state boys 800-meter relay title.

A broken record

Body ODESSA – A long-held school record at Richmond High has fallen. On May 22, the Richmond boys 400-meter relay team won at the Class 3 Sectional 4 competition at Odessa in 43.58 seconds, breaking the school record of 43.75, set in 1993 and tied in 1995.

RHS Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony returns

Body RICHMOND – The Richmond High School Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony is back. After a year’s delay because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Richmond Spartan Alumni Association will induct the newest members June 5.

Jefferson City bound

Body HIGGINSVILLE – Four area athletes are headed to the Class 1 state track and field meet. Orrick and Hardin-Central each qualified two athletes for the competition, slated for Saturday at Adkins Stadium in Jefferson City.
