ODESSA – A long-held school record at Richmond High has fallen. On May 22, the Richmond boys 400-meter relay team won at the Class 3 Sectional 4 competition at Odessa in 43.58 seconds, breaking the school record of 43.75, set in 1993 and tied in 1995. The victory qualified the team for the Class 3 state meet, slated for Saturday at Jefferson City High School, and helped Richmond win the boys meet with 83 points – 11 points ahead of runner-up Lawson. Juniors Layne Cavanah, Jordan Alexander and Keyshaun Elliott and senior Adrian Church set the record, which “felt amazing,” Church said. Alexander called the achievement “awesome.” “We’ve been wanting to do this since the beginning of the year and we finally got it, so it’s a very good feeling,” Alexander said.
