Persell gets first win as Richmond varsity skipper

ODESSA – In 2019, Nick Persell got his first win as Richmond’s varsity football coach. In 2021, Persell got his first win as Richmond’s varsity baseball coach. Win No. 1 took place March 27, with the Spartans cruising past Lexington/ Norborne 9-0 in tournament play at the Odessa Athletic Complex. It “came a lot sooner” than the first football win, Persell said. “So that’s a good thing,” he said. Persell, who finished his third season as football coach last fall, got his first gridiron win in August 2019 against Liberty of Mountain View to start back-to-back winning seasons. Hired in June 2020 to succeed Brandon Quick as baseball coach, he got ball diamond win No. 1 three games into his first season.
