Women’s History Month — a celebration to recognize women’s contributions to society — started out as only a day in 1909, according to nationalgeographic. com. The day turned into a week in 1980 and into a month in 1987.

The trip to Washington, D.C. for eighth-grade students has been set for May 22-26, and Richmond Middle School students are welcome to participate in the group trip with their parents’ permission and support.

The Missouri House gave preliminary approval this week to a legislative proposal that would help the Kansas City Police Department attract and retain the best law enforcement personnel. With a first-round voice vote, House members approved legislation that allow the department to offer better pay to officers and the chief of police.
