Orrick High students display art at Capitol

Orrick High School students visited the Capitol in Jefferson City and four students’ artwork was displayed at the Youth Art Month Exhibition for the opening ceremony. Orrick art teacher Cassie Smith said she was proud of the hard work of her students, senior Chloee Hachman, sophomore Hannah Adams, sophomore Gunner Smith and junior Julia Sayegh.

RHS students present comedic play

The Richmond High School theater department is presenting its version of the play “12 Incompetent Jurors,” based on the Emmy Award-Winning television movie “12 Angry Men” by Reginald Rose and adapted for the stage by Ian McWethy. The play will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 10-11; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 12.

Every year in the United States, about 2,000 people die in residential fires. In a fire, smoke and deadly gases tend to spread farther and faster than heat. The Richmond City Police Department wants to remind residents to check fire alarms and safety routes in their homes.

County sees opioid litigation settlement

Because Ray County is one of many counties affected by the Opioid Public Health Crisis, it has received $219,762.48 from the 2021 Opioid Settlement Agreement. States and state subdivisions reached settlements with Johnson & Johnson, an opioid manufacturer, and the three major pharmaceutical distributors, AmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health and McKesson.

Bald eagle makes appearance in Richmond

A bald eagle – America’s National Bird since 1782 – was recently spotted in Richmond by the Wolf family while walking by Ray County Lake. Gregg Wolf; his wife Tara; and children, Grayson, 7, and Eden, 14, saw the national treasure perched on a nearby tree.
