Humane society adds outdoor play yard for animals

What better way to give a dog freedom than room to play outdoors? All animals, in and out of shelter care, deserve space to roam and play. The Humane Society of Ray County (HSRC) board of directors had a vision that was barking to be heard — a play yard. The board teamed up with Triple G Fencing LLC to erect a custom fence along the north side of the building. HSRC President Atalie Blackwell said artificial turf will be installed this week. There is a space in the 1975 county jail building, which is now home to the HSRC, where inmates would go to get sunlight. However, that space is surrounded by brick with concrete walls and floors. “The yard will be a game changer for the resident dogs at the shelter. There has never been green space for the dogs to play off-leash,” said Blackwell. “We rely so heavily on dog walkers to help socialize the dogs at the shelter.” The president added it is healthy for the animals to get human interaction and beneficial for dogs to interact with other…
