Seeing life on the pages of Richmond News has always been a mission for the company. To be a voice and community business that holds truth and Ray County news. I have agreed with the mission since I began last year; together with my team, we have accomplished making the paper lively.

Going backto- school shopping is a lot harder than I remember. I’m grateful in a way that I no longer must worry about it personally until I have children – far into the future. Going shopping for school meant comfortable but cute clothes and functional supplies.

Do you eat romaine lettuce at home? Most of us cut the bottom core off when we’re preparing a salad, but did you know that core can actually regenerate into a whole new head of lettuce? Simply soak it in water, and in a few days, you’ll see new leaves start to grow. Plant it outside in the garden or in a pot, and in just a few weeks, you’ll have a free harvest of new romaine lettuce to collect. Tutorials and tips can be found online.

One can feel so small when looked at through the eyes of the universe. We are teeny-tiny little specs in a galaxy of planets, stars and the unknown. It’s easy to take things and actions for granted and to see things in black and white.

Everyone has had heard the daunting “back in my day” speech that every grandparent has told from generation to generation, letting us know that things were done differently before our time. In all reality, each parent and grandparent who have mouthed those words are only telling the truth.

Intention has a lot to do with your actions. They intertwine like the roots of a tree below the surface but are noticeably seen above the ground from time to time.

Confessions are always fun to share, whether they are big or small. You may confess your feelings to a friend and it may end well or maybe not so much. You may confess to your mom that her pork chops were gross, in your opinion. Whatever the confession is, it can be difficult to tell. I have a confession to tell you all, obviously. In fact, I have multiple confessions so listen up or put reading glasses on.

My grandpa reads the Richmond News and he doesn’t live in Ray County or Richmond. He lives in Lexington and he enjoys reading the neighboring county news, I assume and because I write some of it – duh.

After spending quite a bit of time getting to know Ray County residents there are a few things I have learned about Richmond and surrounding towns as a journalist. A lot of people care deeply about where they live, where their children go to school and what is happening with small businesses.
