As the cold sets in

Body
Although winter isn’t set to begin until Dec. 21, the air is already filled with the crisp change of colder weather. As the days get shorter and the night air sends a chill through the atmosphere, I know as a parent that it’s time to close the door and spend most of my time indoors.

Winter blues cures

Did everyone set their clocks back an hour? I know I did, and I’ve been waking up early the last several mornings – woo hoo! As the nights start earlier and by 5 p.m. the sun is down, some people are affected differently by the darker evenings.

Halloween frights

Body
Loving Halloween didn’t always come naturally to me. Growing up, my grandma Day convinced me to watch Child’s Play, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and The Conjuring – all at the peak of my preteen years. Some say too early to be introduced to such gore and chaos; and it probably was. Goosebumps, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and Secret at Mystic Lake: Nancy Drew Diaries kept me up all hours of the night reading and afraid.

Adult friendships

Body
Doing things your younger self loved is a happy way to thank yourself for how far you’ve come. For example, last week I invited my friends over for a “slumber party” like we used to do in high school. There were many differences from then to now. We drank wine instead of juice, we stayed at my house instead of my friend’s mom’s house, and we were 23 to 24 years old rather than 17.

Editor, Regarding the last hearing, and approval, of the new RV park being built on 10 highway west of Richmond: When you’re making your presentation to your county government, and the strongest advocates speaking on behalf of the developers are your elected county commissioners and county planning and zoning commissioner, you know in advance that the fix is in.
