A little competition, a lot of love

Every family game seems to come with a warning label, but Uno may have one of the most dramatic reputations of all. If you believe what people say online, the game has ended friendships, sparked arguments and nearly destroyed families thanks to one simple card: the dreaded Draw Four. In my house, though, Uno does the exact opposite. It brings everyone to the table. Once the cards start flying, the competition begins immediately. No one in my family plays gently, and honestly, that is half the fun. No matter who is playing, the goal is always the same: make someone else draw as many cards as possible. The louder the reactions, the better. Uno nights almost always start the same way. Everyone pretends they are just playing casually until the first Skip or Draw Two appears. Then the tone shifts quickly from friendly to fiercely competitive. Someone inevitably groans when a Draw Four lands in their lap, while someone else celebrates like they just won the lottery.
