Traditional family luck

My grandpa reads the Richmond News and he doesn’t live in Ray County or Richmond. He lives in Lexington and he enjoys reading the neighboring county news, I assume and because I write some of it – duh. Poppers, as I call him, talked to me the other day about my ripped pants column. Classic and funny as it was, he stated, “It seems like you’d write about anything.” The truth is, in the ‘Opinion Section’ I may. As the Bales tradition is, we don’t get embarrassed about much and the “Bales Luck” is real. I will get into detail about both subjects but for starters, I want to mention another belief of the Bales. We have what is called “stubborn gladness.” We’ll do our best to be glad and joyful – even if the sky were to start falling. Bales’ laughs can be heard from miles away and my mom has one of the best laughs, besides me of course. Bales don’t really get embarrassed because we don’t put ourselves higher or lower than anyone. We are all on the same level in our eyes. No superiority…
