Ray County Hospital and Healthcare announced $240,000 in grants to address gaps in community services as part of Project Guardian, the organization’s population health program. In June 2023, the hospital was accepted into the Transformation of Rural Community Health (ToRCH) pilot program sponsored by the Missouri Health-Net Division and began laying the foundation of the local chapter, Project Guardian.

The Ray County Library is putting a focus on community engagement this summer. The library has been selected by the American Heart Association to receive a grant program dedicated to combating high blood pressure in rural areas. This will allow the library to promote local health resources and educate residents about hypertension, improving the health of the community.

Jessica Backs was recently selected as the Central Region Teacher of the Year on the University of Central Missouri campus. Backs, a third grade teacher at Sunrise Elementary in Richmond, secured her nomination for this award when she was selected as Richmond R-XVI’s Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2023-2024 in May by the Richmond R-XVI Administration.
