Council tables Whitmer Statue agreement

A lease agreement between the City of Richmond and Far West Missouri Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was recently brought before the Richmond City Council. “Since 2018, The Far West group has presented an annual community service award,” said City of Richmond Economic Development Director Rob Swafford. “As part of that, they display a bust of David Whitmer. He is the namesake of Whitmer Street, was mayor of Richmond for some time, and is also a key historical figure in this religious group. They wish to display this somewhere publicly and through various discussions, we have arrived at the idea that it could be set right here in the hallway outside the council chambers.” A license agreement very similar to that which the city has with the Rotary Club about the Rotary clock was drafted.
