Spartans rest up after ES scrimmages

Body Richmond’s offseason training for high school football got cut short. On July 30, the Spartans were scheduled for a few hours of limitedcontact scrimmaging at Tiger Stadium with Lawson; Winnetonka, a Kansas City-based school; and Excelsior Springs, the event host.

Your sports season is a race, just not a marathon

Body It’s time to tweak a common metaphor among coaches and athletes: “This is a marathon, not a sprint.” I recall at least one Major League Baseball manager comparing a season to a marathon years ago when I covered Major League Baseball – and still cared about it.
A PRO BASEBALL season is a marathon, maybe even an ultramarathon. A high school season, on the other hand, seems akin to an intense 800-meter run. SHAWN RONEY | Staff

Variety is spice of latest girls tennis sessions

Body Spartans tennis coach Zachary Baldauf is getting in some more offseason training with his potential netters before Richmond enters its dead period for athletics Saturday. Baldauf is set to conclude his morning sessions Friday at Maurice Roberts Park.
