Richmond held its Senior Night for varsity boys tennis eight days earlier than one might’ve expected. Generally, Senior Night or Senior Day is scheduled for a team’s final home game or match.
Orrick varsity track coach Kirk Thacker and his Bearcats are ready to compete at the Bruce Finlayson Invitational Friday at Carrollton. “We will be taking on some bigger schools, which will help us with the competition factor and continue to help us get better,” Thacker stated Wednesday via text message.
Richmond coach Brett Terry issued a challenge to his varsity boys tennis team before Monday’s home dual with Knob Noster. “(The) last time we played (them), it was 5-4,” Terry recalled.
Fittingly perhaps, a senior helped lead Richmond in girls track and field Tuesday, when the Spartans hosted the Hoot Middleton Invitational, also designated as Senior Night. Kaylee Pugh, who’ll graduate in May, placed second in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Orrick softball coach Chase Sims saw perhaps the best hit from the Bearcats this varsity season during their 20-0 loss in three innings April 5 to visiting Sweet Springs. Leadoff batter Natasha Hicks provided the hit.
Richmond varsity baseball coach Zach McGill saw his Spartans’ 15-0 loss in three innings to Benton of St. Joseph April 4 at Southview Park as a reminder of the importance of mental toughness.
Kail Farnan is representing Richmond on the links in his final season of high school sports. He’s also representing the Spartans on the baseball diamond.
Richmond has returned to competition mode in high school track. After having no meets scheduled last week, the Spartans ran, jumped, vaulted and threw against other schools Wednesday at the Rob Hoefer Husker Invitational, staged by Lafayette County of Higginsville at Higginsville.
