Richmond has its first shutout this season in varsity 11-man football. Building a 24-0 lead after one quarter, the Spartans went on to lead 43-0 at halftime and cruised to a 49-0 Oct.

Richmond tennis coach Zachary Baldauf and his girls squad get a bit of a breather this week. The Spartans were scheduled for one competition – a Missouri River Valley Conference-East Division (MRVC East) dual Tuesday with visiting Lafayette County of Higginsville, which Richmond lost 9-0.

A losing skid to Lafayette County of Higginsville in varsity 11-man football is over for Richmond, thanks in part to a near-perfect passing performance by Spartans quarterback Jacob Lieberknecht. Unofficially, the junior signal-caller completed 11 of 13 attempts for 321 yards and six touchdowns to help the Spartans crush the Huskers 61-7 Sept.

Norborne Hardin-Central (NHC) played its “most complete game of the season” in thumping Lincoln 58-24 Sept. 26 at Hardin-Central in varsity 8-man football, according to NHC coach Andrew Watson.

Running back Cyrus Jackson showed during Richmond’s 51-12 homecoming win over Center in varsity 11-man football that he could gain yards in chunks and score rushing touchdowns. He also showed he could make a catch in a way that might’ve reminded older sports fans of the cartoon character Inspector Gadget.

On Sept. 17, Lyla Best had what Richmond girls golf coach Courtney Sisson would probably consider a breakthrough.
