The Humane Society of Ray County (HSRC) found ways to keep the floors dry, the animals warm and spirits high this past holiday season. Ray County Commissioners have yet to look at the county-owned building and agreed at the last meeting with HSRC members to go look and walk through the building to see its disrepair. HSRC President Atalie Blackwell, Jennifer Mills and Clare Flamank talked about the current state of the building – especially the roof. Blackwell explained the roof has places where the outside is visible, water comes in from the rain, and at any given time, she believes it will cave in.

Wood Heights man James Wayne Woodruff Sr., 68, will face Eighth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Joseph Donald McGaugh at his next criminal setting hearing on Jan. 19 at 9 a.m.

Justin Robinson, a 40-year-old Richmond man, has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Tuesday, March 19 with Ray County Judge Lori Baskins at the Ray Circuit Court Division. Robinson had two cases totaling 18 felonies.

The Ray County Sheriff’s Department picked up the warrant entries on Tuesday after the Ray County 911 Board severed ties with the department in late September 2023. Between the two agencies, warrant entries and communications were not aligned.

The human body changes as it ages. While certain conditions are commonly associated with aging, some individuals may be surprised to learn of the more common health conditions that can affect seniors. The World Health Organization says one in six people will be 60 or older by 2030. With such a large portion of the population on the cusp of turning 60, it makes sense for individuals to familiarize themselves with the more notable issues affecting seniors.
