Christmas time can be a joyful holiday, it can be stressful for those who may not be able to afford gifts and holiday food. Rayville Christian Union Church (RCUC) volunteers and Richmond Salvation Army understood the assignment of giving back this holiday season – for the second year in a row.

Richmond High School (RHS) National Honor Society (NHS) sponsor Kim Wilton said $6,887.19 was raised for the Richmond R-XVI district to help cover an $8,600 deficit from lunch balances. RHS Principal Brandon Quick said the funds were originally for food, items for students or helping students pay their lunch debt.

Celebrating actions of giving back, the Special Needs Services (SNS) of Ray County program, Community at Play (CAP) initaited cookie decorating with 250 cookies. CAP is a program where anyone and everyone can come together. Uniting others by play and fun activities, SNS CAP events are public and remind people the community is there for them, said SNS Executive Director Suzan Breen.

Richmond resident Charles Mc-Corkendale, 92, donated all of his Kansas City Butler Manufacturing 1920s memorabilia to two historical places last week. His materials will be shown in Science City at Union Station of Kansas City and at the Kelch Aviation Museum of Brodhead, Wis.

Seeking partnership, the Humane Society of Ray County (HSRC) personnel met with Ray County Commissioners Billy Gaines and Dave Powell last week to discuss the Humane Society county-owned building’s state of disrepair.
