After receiving a $250 grant, Brittany Horine, Dear Elementary first grade Title 1 reading teacher plans on investing in decodable books for students, she said. Of the 1,200 applicants for the Hollis and Miller Architects grants, Horine was one of the eight awarded.
More than 60 people gathered at Southview B-Field in Richmond last Wednesday to pray for nineyear- old Presley Minnick of Richmond ahead of her surgery to treat a rare cancer. The vigil was led by Orrick Christian Church Pastor Art Endsley.
With three pursuits and the recovery of a stolen vehicle this past weekend, the Ray County Sheriff’s Department and other assisting agencies “stayed busy,” said Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers.
With the goal of helping those in the community and giving inmates a purpose, Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers created an ‘Inmate Work Crew.’ The crew works on projects in the county at no charge to the recipient of the services. Childers made a video on the Ray County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page explaining the mission behind the crew’s work and it’s received a lot of positive responses.
The City of Richmond, in partnership with Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) Solid Waste Management District, to host an “Electronic Recycling Event” at Richmond City Hall. This event was discussed at an earlier meeting and all residents of Richmond and Ray counties residents can dispose of permitted unwanted electronic devices.
