Body Richmond had a breakthrough during Monday’s 6-4 road loss to Knob Noster in varsity baseball, according to coach Nick Persell. “We played our best offensive game of the season,” Persell stated Wednesday via email.

Body TRIO OF CHAMPIONS A trio of champions of led Richmond Tuesday at the Central Methodist University High School Invitational at Fayette. Kaylee Pugh and Genevieve Didier were the individual champions for the Richmond girls, who placed second among 10 schools with 99 points.

Body David Rash is back coaching track and field. Rash, a former assistant track coach at Cameron and head coach at Orrick, is Richmond’s new varsity boys and girls coach.

Body Thanks largely to a German exchange student, Richmond has something it hasn’t had since 2019: a high school boys tennis team. Coached by Brett Terry, who also coaches Richmond’s girls program, the team consisted of seven players as of March 14.

Body In 2022, Richmond varsity baseball coach Nick Persell and his Spartans played for a district title. In 2023, they want to win one.

Body Richmond coach Murray Dennis’ boys golf roster is filled with newcomers to high school team golf. Some of those newcomers, however, are not golfing novices.

Body In his second season as Orrick varsity track coach, Kirk Thacker is doing something he didn’t have to do last season: share his athletes with another sport. Per a change in school district participation policy, student-athletes may play more than one sport each season.

Body Andrew Watson doesn’t have to look far to find mentors to guide him through his first stint as a head varsity track and field coach. Watson is Hardin-Central’s new coach.

Body Taylor Golden, Orrick’s new varsity softball coach, expects to benefit from a policy change this school year regarding athletics. For the first time at Orrick, students may participate in dual sports during a season.

Body Many years ago, Matt Swigert learned how to play golf. Many years later, he’s learning how to coach it.
