Rash fills ‘big shoes’ as Richmond’s new track coach

David Rash is back coaching track and field. Rash, a former assistant track coach at Cameron and head coach at Orrick, is Richmond’s new varsity boys and girls coach. He succeeds Andy Frerking, who coached last season. Frerking took the helm following the retirement of longtime coach Mike Long. “Big shoes to fill with those two guys,” Rash said March 14 at the high school multipurpose building. “Coach Long had been doing it at Richmond for a long time, and Coach Frerking knows his way around the track, too. … (I’m) just trying to progress what they’ve built over time here and really excited about our athletes that we have.” As of March 14, the high school athletes Rash and his staff had numbered around 70. There also were 61 middle schoolers. “We’ve combined our middle school and high school, just because we’re on the same track all the time,” Rash said. “So we’re all coaching all of them. And that keeps us consistent with events and coaching styles and all that stuff.” Why the…
