Richmond varsity 11-man football coach Nick Persell was impressed with running backs Bryson Pruitt and Ryan Sharp Monday, when the Spartans staged their annual Red and White Game.

And he wasn’t just saying that because they were standing nearby when he was being interviewed afterward on Tom Adams Field at Spartan Stadium.

“Both of them ran hard today,” Persell said.

As Persell pointed out, Sharp and Pruitt each had long TD runs in a scrimmage that lasted three quarters and featured a 25-second play clock, but no game clock. Sharp contributed a 50-yard TD run to the White Team’s 22-6 victory. Pruitt’s 51-yarder provided the Red Team’s lone touchdown.

“On both of their runs, they both showed great patience,” Persell said. “And then, once they saw the crease, they hit it.”

Sharp’s scoring run gave the White Team a 6-0 firstquarter lead. He had to make an adjustment to make the play happen, he acknowledged.
