RICHMOND – Voters slammed the door shut on a plan to replace the Ray County Jail, with a whopping 82.41% saying no Tuesday. Sheriff Scott Childers thanked voters and warned that jail problems remain unresolved.

RICHMOND – “It’s a money pit.” Western Commissioner Gary Wilhite described the Ray County Jail by referencing a 1986 comedy film about a couple pouring money into a “fixerupper” that never seems to get fixed. Eastern Commissioner Dave Powell said work is ongoing to make the most out of the shed-like jail.

RICHMOND – Violent crime statistics over the past nine years have not moved much. They range from a nineyear low of 203 in 2019 to a high of 257 in 2016.

RICHMOND – The Missouri Central Regional Teacher of the Year, Jennifer Clark, teaches at Richmond High School. “We’re excited about that,” district Superintendent Greg Darling said.
