Funds meant to prevent repeat of area’s 2019 floods
KANSAS CITY – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, is set to receive about $278 million under the Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act.
Almost $249 million of that is to repair damage caused by the 2019 flood to the Bank Stabilization and Navigation Project along the Missouri River. Flooding occurred twice in 2019 in Clay and Ray counties, doing significant damage to private property and infrastructure.
In addition to Missouri River repairs, several lakes are expected to benefit from the money. Overall, the Corps of Engineers received $17.1 billion in stabilization funds across the nation for civil works programs, projects and activities designed to help the nation address current and future water resources infrastructure needs.
