Law restricts drivers from phone use

A new bill passed earlier this month forbids Missouri drivers of any age from holding or using any “electronic communication devices.” Called “Siddens Bening Hands Free Law” Missouri Revised Statute 304.820 described devices as anything from a phone to laptops. Drivers may not take videos or scroll while driving – this includes talking on the phone, manually texting or typing into a search engine.
Commissioners discuss bill 190

Older Ray County residents are wondering if Ray County Commissioners will enact the senate bill which freezes property tax rates for residents ages 65 and older. Senate Bill 190 was signed by Missouri Governor Mike Parson earlier this month.
Ray County Sheriff’s Office creates bus stop

With the goal of making better use of property, the Ray County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) have installed a bus stop on the east side of the property. Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers said he hopes to enhance the lives of inmates, released inmates and the community of Henrietta, where the Ray County Jail is located.
TSC opened for business

The Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated the grand opening of Tractor Supply Co. (TSC) with a ribbon cutting last week. TSC announced the acquisition of Orscheln Farm and Home in October 2022.
Parent Café inspires family discussions

With the goal of making families stronger, “Parent Café” was offered to area residents earlier this month. Easterseals Midwest Home Visiting presented the free event in hopes of building a family framework and to explain five protective factors – resilience, relationships, knowledge, support and communication.
Chamber luncheon deemed success

The Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce hosts a luncheon each summer, along with a special presentation in hopes of spreading knowledge about a variety of topics. At the most recent luncheon, Digital Media Specialist Courtney Cole of Excelsior Springs spoke to local business owners about using social media.

Orrick church members donate to VCP

Showing gratitude for local veterans, Orrick Christian Church (OCC) representatives recently delivered gifts and cash to Veterans Community Project (VCP) Outreach Center in Kansas City, Mo. The group delivered more than 200 items, with a total value of $500, along with $1,795 in cash and gift card donations as a tribute to veterans.
Harris crowned Miss Ray County
Body
of Lawson was crowned 2023 Miss Ray County and received a $2,100 scholarship during the week of the Ray County Fair, the pageant held recently at Farris Theater. Maddie Prom of Richmond won People’s Choice and received a $1,000 scholarship, while Alexis Reeves of Lawson won Miss Congeniality and a $400 scholarship.
