Ray County leaders opted to remove the Buffalo Road bridge from a federal list for potential replacement funding, citing the steep cost as outweighing the benefits of keeping the little-used crossing open.

Ray County 911 saved almost $90,000 in six months by switching phone and internet service providers, a move officials said improved speeds and reliability while freeing up money for other needs. The commission reviewed detailed figures showing that combining phone and internet lines under United Fiber, rather than relying on AT&T and Mediacom, brought costs down sharply.

A decades-old bridge on Missouri Route Z south of Orrick will soon be limited to a single lane as crews prepare for its eventual replacement. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will implement a one-lane bridge crossing at Missouri Route Z over Keeney Creek approximately one mile south of Orrick beginning at approximately 6 a.m.

Sheriff Gary Blackwell recently informed the Ray County Coalition the jail facility underwent approximately $100,000 in repairs after being shut down early this year due to safety concerns.

A bridge south of Orrick that has carried Missouri Route Z traffic for decades is nearing the end of its service life and transportation officials want to hear from the community before it is replaced.
