The graduating class of Orrick High School stood shoulder to shoulder one final time, united in caps, gowns and community spirit. As the 97th class to receive diplomas from Orrick R-XI, the 36 seniors in the class of 2025 were celebrated not only for their academic accomplishments, but for their kindness, character and quiet leadership.

A piece of the old Ray County Courthouse was delivered to the Ray County Museum grounds last Saturday. I purchased and donated the stone, part of one of the building’s four original columns. The Ray County Historical Society manages the museum.

The Richmond R-XVI School Board renewed its $7,860 annual membership with the Missouri School Boards Association during its May meeting. Board members also received updates on state legislation, district finances, and the district’s alternative education program.

After more than four decades in agricultural education, including the last 10 years at Richmond High School, Charles Foreman is retiring with a legacy that stretches from the classroom to the county fairgrounds and into the lives of the students he taught to lead, build and grow.

MIRANDA JAMISON A Richmond mother and son have been arrested after a domestic disturbance allegedly spiraled into a violent standoff involving a kitchen knife, a 3-year-old child used as a shield and the city’s police chief being punched in the face. Alexander Duchan Miles, 29, is charged with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child creating substantial risk with no sexual conduct, armed criminal action, resisting or interfering with arrest for a felony and unlawful use of a weapon.

Led once again by University of Missouri Extension field specialist Todd Higgins, the recent session transformed compost from a vague concept into a practical, accessible tool for anyone hoping to build healthier soil and reduce waste.
