Commission eyes roadwork standards, equipment repairs

Planned training for road crews, equipment maintenance and empty vending machines complaints, as well as a lack of bids for county services combined to create a busy slate of issues for county leaders. Commissioners recently discussed persistent concerns about inconsistent road grading and the need for more training. Presiding Commissioner Sheila Tracy noted officials often receive conflicting feedback from residents. “We’ve had some people talk to us about how they grade the roads and how they do it,” said Tracy. “They’re doing it wrong or they’re doing it really well. So you have that big variation of success, I guess.” Tracy suggested bringing in outside trainers to offer refresher courses. “Would you give us the information on that company that was used and we will call and see what you can do,” stated Tracy. “At least that would give us something to say, ‘Well, we are trying to improve it.’” Staff members described their past experiences with training vendors and the…
