Body ORRICK – The Bearcats’ varsity softball success this spring will depend partly on their ability to adapt, sophomore infielder Janie Kilgore said. For starters, the Bearcats must adapt to Zach McGill as their new skipper.

Body HARDIN – Varsity coach Kirk Thacker sees championship potential in his Hardin-Central boys team. The roster includes former members of the junior high program that won two straight Carroll-Livingston Activities Association boys championships, Thacker said March 1.

Body INDEPENDENCE – Ryker Plymell finished his high school career a winner. The Richmond senior placed third in the 195-pound division at the 91st Boys MSHSAA Wrestling Championships in the Class 1 tournament, held March 10 at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence.

Body KANSAS CITY – The Spartans made their share of free throws against The Barstow School at Avila University in the Class 4 state boys basketball quarterfinals March 12. Barstow senior Connor Arment made his share, too, particularly late in the fourth quarter.

Body RICHMOND – Pem-broke Hill is no longer undefeated in boys basketball. And Richmond is in the state quarterfinals in boys basketball.

Body INDEPENDENCE – Another Richmond boys wrestling season is complete. The Spartans finished their latest campaign by placing 13th Wednesday in the Class 1 state tournament at Cable Dahmer Arena.

Body ORRICK – Varsity boys basketball coach Matt Brownsberger has many reasons to reflect fondly on this season, given his Bearcats’ achievements. “We repeated as district champions,” Brownsberger said Monday by phone.
