KANSAS CITY – Richmond varsity girls basketball coach Kaylee Vantrump expects the Spartans’ 51-31 season-ending loss to St. Pius X of Kansas City in the Class 4 District 15 title game to leave the Spartans with a craving.

Of the hundreds of thousands of high school wrestlers, only a small percentage know what it’s like to win a state title. is part of that percentage.

In his first season as Orrick varsity boys basketball coach, Joe Cusack saw his Bearcats open and close with losses to programs that, as he put it, “are capable of being state championship teams.”

NORBORNE – Whenever Hardin-Central challenged, Braymer had an answer. The Bulldogs challenged Braymer during the first quarter and early in the second quarter when the teams met Feb.

HIGGINSVILLE – Richmond wrestling coach Cody Hogan and four of his Spartans had a short week to prep for their final tournament this season. At press time, Hogan; seniors Aidan Ivison, Larry Penniston and Elijah Sanders; and junior Declan Cockrum were at the Class 1 state boys competition.

NORBORNE – With the Hardin-Central boys entering the Class 1 District 13 Tournament at 10-15, coach Brent Behler knew the Bulldogs needed to stay focused to get an opening win Monday night against tournament host Norborne.

LEXINGTON – When Trinidy Fisk and her fellow Spartans travelled on Feb. 10 to face Lexington in varsity girls basketball, the Richmond senior wanted more than a Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC) East Division victory.
