Local 4-H club receives grant to help feed kids

In the Richmond school system, it has become evident some children experience food insecurity, relying heavily on the meals provided during school hours and often lacking access to food outside of that time. Despite receiving assistance from organizations like Harvesters, the support frequently falls short of meeting all the children’s needs.

Local farm families invited to apply for recognition

The University of Missouri (MU) Extension in Ray County is encouraging eligible farm families to apply for the 2025 Missouri Century Farm program, with the application deadline approaching on May 1. Each year, MU Extension, in partnership with the MU College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources and the Missouri Farm Bureau, honors Missouri farms that have been owned and operated by the same family for 100 consecutive years or more.

Seed-starting workshop cultivates community roots

Inside the Ray County Library’s Community Room, the air smelled faintly of soil and springtime as residents filled rows of tables to plant the beginnings of something new. The library’s April 16 seed-starting workshop, the first in its new “Learn to Grow Your Food” series, drew attendees for a handson experience in gardening, education and community connection.
