Before school was out for the summer, Richmond Middle School (RMS) held an all-school assembly and while doing so – surprised RMS teacher Brenda Hamm as the 2023 Middle School Educator of the Year. “Hamm has unique ways to engage her students and works diligently to have a classroom with unlimited opportunities for all her students to have a positive learning experience.

An Excelsior Springs resident entered a plea of not guilty to multiple charges, including armed criminal action, during a criminal setting hearing earlier this week. Wyatt Dean Lumsden, 19, of Excelsior Springs, previously posted 10% of a $25,000 bond, on two felony charges including: unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action.

Farris Theater’s annual spring play, “First Baptist of Ivy Gap,” was presented recently with cast and crew receiving kudos from their producer. Play producer Opal Richardson discussed the result of the presentation, saying, “The ladies did a good job.

With summer activities coming up, the Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce has prepared for fall and winter events for the community by hiring a new activities director. So far, native Ray Countian Jayne Taylor said she is loving it.

Ray County residents were left with questions about a picture of two small building structures outside of the Ray County Sheriff’s Department after Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers made a Facebook post about them. “I wanted to leave some suspense and get some excitement about it,” he said.
