Community at Play (CAP) helped bring out the inner child of those who participated in the organization’s water-themed event July 15 at Maurice Roberts Park in Richmond. CAP is a program designed to bring groups together with fun community events.
Anyone with a decoration on a grave at Richmond Memory Gardens that isn’t in a vase must remove it by Friday, the city of Richmond stated July 13 on its Facebook page. “Richmond Memory Gardens understands and embraces the desire to pay tribute and respect to those that pass on before us, through the adorning of a loved one’s grave with flowers and appropriate seasonal decorations,” the city, which owns the cemetery, stated in the social media post.
The Ray County Fair is in full swing this week with more than two dozen events and activities. The fair, which started July 10 with the 4-H/FFA Horse Show, continues throughout the week, wrapping up Friday with a rabbit show and small animal show at the Ray County Fairgrounds.
Southview Lake in Richmond has received lots of attention the past few days, as renovations take place around its northern shoreline. Work includes removing all underbrush, debris and trees, except ones marked to save; dredging the north end of the lake to remove vegetation and silt; grading the bank for drainage; lining the bank with rip-rap rock to prevent erosion; and clearing the north shoreline from the boat ramp on the west approximately 450 feet to the east side.
The city of Richmond, Community Bank of Missouri and Missouri Farm & Home Insurance have partnered to develop the Restore Richmond program. This initiative provides eligible residents up to $2,000 to begin restoring and improving the appearance of their homes.
The grass might not always be greener on the other side, but it tends to be greener where Tom Baier takes care of it at Shirkey Golf Course in Richmond. Hired in March as the superintendent/head greensman, Baier is from Wayne, Nebraska, and got his horticulture degree, with specialization in turf management from Iowa State University, he said.
