It’s appearing Missouri voters will get to decide in November whether it’s time to legalize recreational marijuana. As the Missouri Independent and other sources have reported, Legal Missouri 2022 submitted roughly 400,000 signatures in May to the Secretary of State’s Office to get the issue placed on the ballot.

When life gave them lemons, Alaze Chowning and her second-grade summer school class made lemonade. Chowning’s students learned that lesson through hard work, math and entrepreneurship, topped off with a party and a refreshing beverage.

Young area thespians will get to hone their skills at a summer drama camp Aug. 8-12 at the Farris Theatre.

In June, there was a pet food and toy drive to benefit the Humane Society of Ray County and Autumn Acres. The Richmond News, JP’s Total Image, Richmond Chiropractic Center, Equitable Advisors, the Ray County Library, Oswald Crow Agency and Macey Bail Bonds were sponsors and held the donation boxes in their respective offices.

John Haley joins the Orrick R-XI School District as its high school principal this year. Haley is filling the position vacated by Michelle Wityk, who left the district.

Ray County has changed the way it electronically enters warrants for arrests, searches and other lawrelated business. Starting Tuesday, the Ray County Courthouse began entering the data, rather than 911 dispatchers.

Office-seekers got a chance to campaign during the Ray County Coalition Candidates Forum and Annual Meeting, held June 29 at the United Christian Presbyterian Church in Richmond. Candidates campaigning for county offices who appeared and the offices sought by them included Kymmie Higginbotham, Heather Maulsby, Alice Smith and Michelle Woods, circuit clerk; Melissa Holloway, treasurer; Julie Chowning, collector; and Rhonda Kinnison, recorder.
