is a state medalist again. Harris, who just finished his junior year at Orrick, placed fifth in the boys 110-meter high hurdles with his time of 16.14 seconds at Class 1 state competition, held recently at Jefferson City High School – his second straight year to place in the top five in the event.

Varsity football coach Nick Persell got his typical turnout for Richmond’s latest futures camp. Roughly 100 youngsters attended this year’s three-day camp, which concluded recently at Spartan Stadium and included the tradition of the campers running out of the game tunnel onto the field with the current high school Spartans.

Richmond has not produced a state boys tennis champion, according to Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) records. That might change this weekend.

CHILLICOTHE – Richmond’s girls 400-meter relay team put in some overtime to claim the winning time, 51.12 seconds, at Class 3 District 8 competition May 13 at Chillicothe High School. “We worked on our handoffs constantly this past week,” said junior Kaylee Pugh, who ran the leadoff leg.

Richmond went down fighting in its final varsity baseball game of 2023. The Spartans fell 7-6 in 10 innings on May 13 at Webb Park in Oak Grove in the Class 4 District 13 Tournament to defending district champion Marshall.

With one tournament left in the boys golf season, one Richmond Spartan remains standing: Jack Gogue. Gogue, who’ll graduate high school Sunday afternoon, will play in the Class 3 state tournament, scheduled for May 1516 at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield.

CONCORDIA – Orrick softball fans got to see the Bearcats display their 2024 jerseys in their last game of 2023. The Bearcats wore the black jerseys with yellow letters and numbers on May 5, when they fell to Kingsville 17-1 in four innings in the Class 1 District 8 Tournament at the Concordia Ballpark Complex.
