Persell sees Spartans peaking entering postseason
With the postseason quickly approaching, Richmond varsity baseball coach Nick Persell sees his Spartans peaking at the right time.
“We all knew early that … there would be some growing pains with some inexperience on our team and it would take some time for us to work some of that out. … There’s really no replacing … experience,” Persell said Monday. “And now, after a full season, … we’re starting to gain a little bit more confidence, especially in some of those guys who haven’t been a big part of varsity baseball in the past. … (We’re) starting to come together, starting to play a lot better baseball – more error-free (games) and (our) pitchers are still doing a good job, as they have all season long.”
The Spartans were 10-12 overall and had won six of seven ballgames entering their regular-season finale Thursday at Lone Jack. That stretch included a 7-0 victory over West Platte Monday at Southview Park.
