Nursing home tax increase on April ballot

A Senior Citizen Nursing Home District tax increase of just over 218% will be found on the April 2 ballot. The 11-cent property tax was passed in 1969 and has never increased.

Sunday, March 3 At 12:30 a.m., Richard Wilson, 29, of Norborne, MO, was arrested for property damage – Clinton County; property damage – 1st degree; armed criminal action; unlawful use of weapon – subsection 9 – shoot at/from motor vehicle, at person, motor vehicle, or building.
Vernon King Memorial Foundation lives on

The legacy of a wellknown Ray County native, veteran and state representative lives on in a fund to provide free transportation for some veterans. Made possible by the Vernon King Memorial Foundation, established in 2017, free transportation is provided by Ray County Transportation Inc., known as Direct Transit.
Two seek Camden City mayor seat

Two residents are vying for the Camden City Mayor’s seat — Vicky Jordan, 55 and Karen Baker, 70. “The qualifications for anyone running for a council is they have to live within their district, must have all their taxes paid up and be a registered voter,” said Ray County Clerk Heather Graff-Maulsby.

Because only two candidates qualified — Incumbents Jimmy Carter and Chad Burnine — will keep their seats on the Ray County 911 Eastern District Board. However, the item will remain on the ballot.
Commissioner’s rescind Sept. 2023 motion

Amid confusion of Ray County Commission’s vague minutes regarding Ray Rocks Offroad Resort’s (RROR) conditional use permits regarding trails, campgrounds and racing. The commissioners rescinded and amended motions due to inconsistencies with county ordinances, specifically racing within the trails.
