Commission approves safety grants, weighs new initiatives

Ray County commissioners approved three highway safety grants last week that will fund year-round traffic enforcement and the purchase of a new patrol radio for the sheriff’s office. The action cleared two $4,000 federal contracts for impaired driving and hazardous moving enforcement and authorized a radio purchase through MoDOT’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan.

Commission discusses senior center wages, road policy

Ray County commissioners spent much of their recent meeting grappling with concerns over the county senior center’s ability to sustain services, while also clarifying dust control policy for roads and reviewing economic development programs. The discussions reflected the board’s mix of fiscal oversight, operational issues and planning for community needs.

Missouri’s path to protect pollinators

The Highway 13 Butterfly Coalition is working to make Missouri a fueling station for pollinators as they migrate between Canada and Mexico. The coalition began as the dream of a small group of dedicated people working to improve pollinator habitat and promote ecotourism along Missouri Highway, says University of Missouri and Lincoln University Extension urban entomologist Emily Althoff.
