Local principal inducted into hall of fame

This past weekend, Richmond Middle School (RMS) Principal Staci Maddux was inducted into the Missouri State High School FastPitch Coaches Association (MHSFCA) Hall of Fame. After starting the Richmond softball program at the Richmond R-XVI School District, she made history in Missouri.

Thursday, December 14 At 11:51 p.m., Michael Allen Smith, 44, of Kansas City, MO, was arrested for possession of controlled substance except 35 grams or less of marijuana/synthetic cannabinoid; unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
MDC introduces new county conservation agent

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has named Claire Burch as the new conservation agent serving Ray County. A native of Lee’s Summit, Burch has lifelong experience in the outdoors, and since college, she has worked in the conservation field.
Local FFA president wins grant

A $1,000 National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) grant has been awarded to Allison Coats of Richmond by Cencora Impact Foundation. Coats, a senior at Richmond High School, is currently the Richmond FFA chapter president.
Heart attacks increase this time of year

Scientific research over time has shown an uptick in cardiac events during the winter holiday season, and more people die from heart attacks between Dec. 25 and January 1 than at any other time of the year.
