Smoking products will be prohibited in city parks
Going into effect this Earth Day, Richmond City Council approved an ordinance which will prohibit use of tobacco, nicotine and vapor products in city parks.
Bill No. 24-04 amends Title II, Public Health, Safety and Welfare, Chapter 240, Parks of Richmond and adds a new section 240.050, restricting tobacco, nicotine and vapor products in city parks.
“At the meeting held on March 4, the Park Board thoroughly reviewed the information provided by Director of Parks and Recreation Haley Williams regarding the usage of tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor products within city parks and at city-sponsored parks and recreation activities,” said Richmond City Administrator Tonya Willim.
After reviewing the topic, the board recommended the council amend the city municipal code to restrict tobacco and nicotine use in parks.
