RICHMOND – Just to be sure, Ray County resident Julie Nelson asked the County Commission to discuss language for the ½-cent jail sales tax issue going on the Aug. 3 ballot.
JEFFERSON CITY – The Spartans gave Richmond varsity track and field coach Mike Long a few high notes for ending his career. One of those notes was a state boys 800-meter relay title.
RICHMOND – The sky is dusty gray, an odd contrast to the drizzle that falls steadily, lightly across the hillside at Woodland Cemetery. Robins gliding down from trees that line the hillside to the north flit among tombstones set within a green lawn made lush by days of rain.
ODESSA – A long-held school record at Richmond High has fallen. On May 22, the Richmond boys 400-meter relay team won at the Class 3 Sectional 4 competition at Odessa in 43.58 seconds, breaking the school record of 43.75, set in 1993 and tied in 1995.
RICHMOND – The Richmond High School Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony is back. After a year’s delay because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Richmond Spartan Alumni Association will induct the newest members June 5.
ODESSA – Sophia Farnan could finish her high school track and field career with a state medal. Farnan, who graduated this month from Richmond, qualified for the Class 3 state meet Saturday at Jefferson City High School by placing third in the girls javelin at the Sectional 4 meet May 22 at Odessa.
RICHMOND – Drive-through COVID-19 vaccinations took place May 19 at the Ray County Fairgrounds. The Richmond Fire Department provided staff, including Cody Oliphant, to assist with monitoring those who received the Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine.
