Body RICHMOND – The Spartans’ new head track and field coach is not new to the Richmond School District. Or to Richmond track and field.

Body RICHMOND – Half of Richmond’s boys golf team made a quick transition from trying to sink two- and three-point buckets to trying to sink putts. As of March 14, there were six student-athletes out for golf, coach Murray Dennis said.

Body RICHMOND – The Spartans have “the most skilled team we’ve had in a little while” this varsity baseball season, senior Lucas Rodenberg said. “We’re looking pretty solid,” he said after a March 3 practice at Southview Park.

Body ORRICK – Coach Mitch Comstock starts over this season with Orrick’s golf program.

Body ORRICK – With roughly half of Orrick’s softball team consisting of underclassmen, skipper Zach McGill and assistant coach Tom Pierce have spent “a lot of time teaching” as the Bearcats enter the season, McGill said.

Body ORRICK – Coach Kirk Thacker brings parts of Hardin-Central’s track and field program to Orrick’s varsity program.

Body HARDIN – Given its size, Hardin-Central has “good numbers” for track and field, varsity coach Brent Behler said. As of March 7, the Bulldogs had roughly 20 boys and eight participating, Behler estimated.

Body BLUE SPRINGS – For the second straight season, a Kansas City-based private school ended Richmond’s postseason run in boys basketball in the Class 4 state quarterfinals.

Body RICHMOND – Richmond High School’s FFA chapter will host a donkey baskeball tournament at 6:30 p.m. March 21 in the gym.

Body RICHMOND – Coach Kevin Jermain and his Spartans got their district threepeat in boys basketball. They got their second straight sectional championship, too.
