Johnson sets school record in track/field finale

Body JEFFERSON CITY – Starting with his junior year at Richmond, Jacoby Johnson chased the boys 400-meter dash record. On May 27 at Adkins Stadium, during his final high school track and field meet, Johnson overtook the record.

Multiple Spartans head to state in boys track, field

Body ODESSA – A chilly, windy day proved no match for Richmond’s Dayne Loftin when he ran the boys 110-meter high hurdles May 21 in Class 3 Sectional 4 competition at Odessa. Loftin, who just finished his junior year at Richmond, won the event in 15.3 seconds.

Two girls relays, two individuals state-bound

Body ODESSA – When Mackenzey Peach suffered an ACL tear last summer in high school softball, it left her wondering about her future in track and field. Flash forward to May 2022 and she is still competing in track – at least for one more meet.

Coach leaves Orrick, returns to roots

Body ORRICK – A major connection to Orrick’s 2020 Class 1 state quarterfinal run, and back-to-back district titles in 2019 and 2020 in boys basketball is gone. Coach Matt Brownsberger announced in April he was leaving Orrick to teach and coach in Warsaw.

Pugh fifth

Body JEFFERSON CITY – Hardin-Central sprinter Korbin Pugh is a state medalist again. Pugh placed fifth in the boys 100-meter dash in 11.36 seconds at Class 1 state competition, held May 20-21 at Jefferson City High School.

Richmond girls break school relay record at districts

Body CHILLICOTHE – A 32-year-old Richmond track record has fallen. Varsity coach Andy Frerking and Athletic Director Matt Habermehl reported Monday that Kaylee Pugh, Sydney Appleberry, Abrey Oldham and Brook Weber broke the school’s girls 800-meter relay record of 1 minute, 49.
