ORRICK – Varsity 8-man football coach Kirk Thacker and his Bearcats braved the elements to start this week’s practice schedule. In a chilly Monday afternoon autumn rain, the Bearcats honed their conditioning and worked on a few secret weapons on their practice field as they began prepping for district play Friday against visiting Southwest of Livingston County/Hale/Tina-Avalon.

RICHMOND – Excited Richmond football players rushed to the end zone after the game and rang the Saluda Bell – their prize for winning the bi-county rivalry game against Lexington. Some of the grinning players hoisted the bell attached to a cross pole while posing for the yearbook, and social media photos and video, following their 41-8 home win over the Minutemen.

CAMERON – With Richmond’s 3-0 Oct. 23, season-ending road loss to topseeded Cameron in the Class 3 District 16 Tournament semifinals, varsity volleyball coach Crystal Turner hoped the Spartans saw in the Dragons the kind of program they can become.

KEYTESVILLE – Kelton Gordon had a reason to grin after Norborne Hardin-Central’s 88-40 road win Oct. 22 over Keytesville/Brunswick/Northwestern of Mendon.

ALMA – At halftime, Orrick coach Kirk Thacker gave his Bearcats his blunt opinion of how they played the first half of their Oct. 22 meeting with Santa Fe.

HENRIETTA – There is no domestic violence shelter in Ray County, a plan to establish one fell through, but the Ray County Sheriff’s Office helped to raise awareness about abuse with an event Oct. 23 and social media posts.

RICHMOND – The Knob Noster Panthers played like they expected to win when they took the opening kickoff and contested the game throughout the first half before Richmond adjusted and rolled to a 69-24 Oct. 15 homefield win.
