Chief cautions against leaving children in vehicles

In an effort to save the lives of area children, Richmond City Fire Chief Mark Sowder shared summer safety tips children being left in vehicles. The unfortunate truth is that accidents can happen quickly in the hot summer months. In 2022, there were 33 hot vehicle deaths reported in the U.S., with 10 deaths recorded so far this year.
Area scouts leave for camp

The Boy Scouts programs are beneficial for young men to learn life skills at a young age. Richmond area Boy Scout Troop 324 were sent off last week to the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation near Osceola, Mo. where they’ll have the opportunity to earn badges.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will be closing Hwy 10 over the West Fork of Crooked River between Richmond and Wood Heights for a bridge replacement. Work will begin on Monday, July 24 and the project is scheduled to last until the end of November.

With the intention to honor her late husband, Marcia Claire Smith donated an 1800s Landau carriage made in Germany to the Ray County Museum this past week. Marcia’s husband, Donald Ray Smith, had a love for restoring buggies and carriages.
Multi-agency pursuit leads to felony charges

A 31-year-old Braymer woman is facing several charges from multiple agencies following a recent vehicle pursuit. After a vehicle was reported stolen from Casey’s gas station in Polo, Ray County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) Deputy Robbie Cox located and initiated the pursuit of the vehicle on Palmer Drive.
